Learn About The Progress Of Dallas County in Fighting HIV

The following charts measure and demonstrate Dallas County’s past, present, and potential results in regard to the Ending HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative.

OVERARCHING GOAL

The EHE initiative aims to reduce all new HIV infections in the United States by 75% in five years and by 90% in 10 years. Dallas County is dedicated to reaching this goal within the county by 2030.

INCIDENCE

Incidence is the estimated number of new HIV infections in a given year.

Our goal is to see the number of new HIV infections go down almost completely by 2030.

MIDTERM GOAL

This indicator will show the historical movement towards reaching the overall goals of the EHE initiative.

KNOWLEDGE OF STATUS

Knowledge of Status is the estimated percentage of people living with HIV who have received an HIV diagnosis.

This stat indicates how many people are living with HIV and know their diagnosis.

LEADING INDICATORS

The leading national indicators demonstrate the movement toward meeting the overarching goals of the EHE initiative and updates frequently.

DIAGNOSIS

Diagnoses are the number of people diagnosed with HIV in a given year confirmed by laboratory or clinical evidence.

The amount of Dallas County residents who have been diagnosed with HIV by a medical professionally administered test.

LINKAGE TO HIV MEDICALCARE

Linkage to HIV Medical Care is the percentage of people living with HIV in a given year who have received medical care for their HIV infection within one month of diagnosis.

The number of Dallas County residents who are receiving medical care for HIV after their diagnosis. By 2030, our aim is to have at least 95% of the community receiving treatment.

VIRAL SUPPRESSION

Viral Suppression is the percentage of people living with diagnosed HIV infection who have an amount of HIV that is less than 200 copies per milliliter of blood, in a given year.

Viral suppression is reached when someone living with HIV tests with undetectable results, meaning the virus will not be passed on.

PREP COVERAGE

PrEP coverage is the estimated percentage of individuals prescribed PrEP among those who need it.

This is the number of residents who are taking PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) to lower their risk of contracting HIV through sexual intercourse.
